MS in Cybersecurity

As cyber-attacks and data breaches continue to increase in frequency and scale, there is a growing demand for experts who possess the necessary skills to protect an organization's digital assets. The 2017 Cybersecurity Ventures Annual Cybercrime Report predicts that damages from cybercrime will cost the world six trillion dollars annually by 2021; and according to a recent ISACA survey, only 38% of IT professionals believe their organization is prepared for a sophisticated cyber-attack. Ginni Rometty, the CEO of IBM, went as far as to say, "Cyber crime is the greatest threat to every company in the world."

Offered through the Quinnipiac University School of Engineering, the online MS in cybersecurity is designed to prepare students to take advantage of the abundance of opportunities available in the field. This program provides students with the skills needed to leverage advanced prevention, detection, countering and recovery methods to successfully defend cyber assets.

The MS in cybersecurity program aligns with the knowledge units established by the NSA/DHS National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) and supports their goal to create a cyber-secure nation through a hands-on, interdisciplinary education.

Curriculum Overview

The master of science in cybersecurity is a 30 credit program. Coursework seeks to prepare students to effectively assume leadership positions within the field through an emphasis on IT infrastructure, networking technology, database security, cryptography, and advanced cyber operations management skills.

Non-degree students seeking stackable credentials to expand their current knowledge also have the opportunity to take the graduate level coursework of their choosing.

The mission of the MS in Cybersecurity program is to equip students to succeed as effective cyber defenders in a rapidly changing business and technology environment. Specific objectives include:

  1. Train students to be able to apply risk management concepts to cybersecurity challenges.
  2. Enable students to use and evaluate software to manage cybersecurity risk.
  3. Create the next generation of cloud native security professionals.
  4. Enable students to design, build and operate resilient systems that meet business objectives.
